- More than 8 million students are missing so many days of school that they are academically at risk.
- Missing 10% or more of school days due to absence for any reason-excused or unexcused, can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by 3rd grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school.

What can Parents Do?

Set a regular bedtime routine.

Layout clothes and backpacks the night before.

Avoid medical appointments during school hours.

Do not schedule vacations on days school is in session.

Stomach ache or headache can be a sign of anxiety and not a reason to stay at home. If you child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, counselor, and other parents for advice on how to make your child feel confortable and excited about learning. (If your child is running a fever or vomiting...please keep him/her at home.)

Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up.
