Tara Kress

My name is Tara Kress. I teach first grade at FES. This is my fourth year here at Falkville. I grew up in Cullman and graduated from Cullman High School. I graduated from Athens State with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.

I have been married to my husband, John, for 28 years.  We have two children, Will and Katelyn. Will is a recent graduate of Auburn University and currently works in Decatur and Katelyn is a junior at Auburn.

While my husband was in graduate school at Auburn I taught 3rd grade in Lee County.  After he graduated, we moved to South Carolina, where I worked as a kindergarten aide. When our son was born, I chose to leave teaching to be a stay-at-home mother.  A few years later we moved back to Cullman to be close to our families.  I was very involved with our children’s education and extracurricular activities.  I taught substituted at their schools, helped coach soccer, and cheer, and was on various booster clubs.  In recent years, I taught at Good Hope Primary in Cullman County.  I enjoy spending time with family and friends, taking care of my dogs and cats, and helping my husband on the farm.

I chose a career in education because I wanted to make a positive impact on our youth.  I love to watch children grow and learn.
